>Implementation of environmental management and monitoring programs during construction of the Ourinhos hydroelectric plant
The 44 MW Ourinhos hydroelectric project will generate energy by damming the Paranapanema river in an environmentally sensitive region. The environmental license on the project required implementation of a comprehensive set of social and environmental management programs, including property indemnification, resettlement support, community development, environmental management of construction, workforce training, fauna monitoring and relocation, water quality monitoring and reservoir margin reforestation, among others.
JGP was hired by the project sponsor to execute most social and environmental programs on a turn-key basis. This involved structuring and training a multidisciplinary resident team to execute all necessary management and monitoring activities and to produce periodic reports for demonstration of compliance to the environmental agency.
