JGP concludes the permitting process of the Novo Remanso fluvial port in the Amazon River | April 2019
Construction to begin shortly in the Novo Remanso fluvial port near Itacoatiara in the Amazon River. This is a major terminal that will handle mostly general cargo and fuels. JGP was responsible for development of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) leading to the Preliminary Environmental Permit (LP), as well as for the Environmental and Social Management Plans and Forest Clearing Permit that resulted in issuance of the Construction License (LI). Furthermore, due to proximity to two (02) indigenous people territories, ethno-ecological studies were required by the responsible Federal Agency (FUNAI) and in one of the two territories an extensive consultation process was conducted and community compensation programs were proposed that were successful in obtaining support for the project (free, prior and informed consent – FPIC).
