Brazil's Federal Environmental Agency (IBAMA) approves JGP's Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Xingu/Estreito 800 kV Continuous Current Transmission Line (January 2016)

IBAMA (Brazil's Federal Environmental Agency) issued the environmental permit for the Xingu/Estreito 800 kV Continuous Current Transmission Line. This was based on review of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) submitted by JGP. The Xingu/Estreito line will be 2,100 km long and will be one of the main transmission lines to connect the Belo Monte hydropower project to the National Grid. The EIA review process was concluded in less than 4 months. IBAMA indicated this exemplifies how the permitting process can be agile when good quality impact assessments are presented.
