Environmental Installation Permit for the Teles Pires Hydropower Project (1,800 MW) is Requested to Brazil’s Federal Environmental Agency (IBAMA) (May 2011)

The request for the Environmental Permit necessary for construction of the Teles Pires hydropower project (1,800 MW) was filed with IBAMA (the Federal Environmental Agency of Brazil). JGP was responsible for development of all Environmental and Social Management Plans and Monitoring Programs, as well as supplementary baseline studies requested by IBAMA in the Preliminary Environmental License. This required liaising with several other public entities with specific responsibilities in the permitting process. A total of 44 environmental and social management plans and/or monitoring programs were developed. Additionally, an Indigenous Peoples Development Plan was developed to manage actions to be implemented with three indigenous groups.
