JGP is selected by IFC to Structure Environmental and Social Aspects of the Lima Trans-Andean Water Supply Project (November 2018)

Peru's capital (Lima) water supply will be expanded though works that will involve the transfer of water from an Andean lake draining towards the Amazon basin, though a 10 km tunnel, into the Rimac River that reaches Lima on the Pacific coast. This is a Category A project involving direct interference with three Andean peasant communities (Comunidades Campesinas), as well as several ecological flow and biodiversity issues.

The project includes upstream components (heightening of the Pomacocha dam, deviation of flows from three downstream tributaries into the heightened reservoir, trans-Andean tunnel and works on the Rio Blanco valley on the downstream side of the tunnel. In Lima, a major water treatment plant will be expanded and a 40 km (80 inch) water mains that will carry additional water supply to the Lima's southern districts.

The project will be structured as a PPP and the Government of Peru selected IFC to structure the PPP and the corresponding tender documents. JGP was selected by IFC to structure environmental and social aspects of the project, including preparation of Terms of Reference for the ESIA of the upstream and downstream components, for the Resettlement and Livelihood Restoration Plan, the Stakeholder Engagement Plan and the Indigenous Peoples Development Plans for the three Comunidades Campesinas.
